- Abstract:
- Chinese modern culture is characterized by an emotionalized ethics. In their rebellion against the family and pursuit of freedom of love and marriage, Chinese intellectuals constructed a set of self-oriented ethical values. Adopting the narrative mode of “revolution plus love” embodying a transition from self-orientedness to social orientedness, Jiang Guangci’s novels show a combination of personal love and political hatred. The sublimation from individualism to collectivism was achieved through creating collective heroes, thus accomplishing the ethical construction in modern political culture.
