- Abstract:
- Zeng Shiying(1899—1994)is a well-known cartographer in China. In May 1950, he was appointed as the president of Xinhua Map Agency. Founded by the State Administration of Publication, it is the first national organization for mapping in the People’s Republic of China. In December 1950, Xinhua Map Agency was transferred to People’s Education Press, and Zeng Shiying served as a member of the cooperative affairs committee of the press and the president of the agency until April 1953. During this time, he led a competent task force in Nanjing to compile and print Atlas of the Chinese People and a series of instructional maps, such as Xinhua Maps for Primary School and Topography of the Great Motherland. They had made great contributions to the unification of instructional maps and geography courses and the development of school geography education in the People’s Republic of China.
