Abstract:
Marriage is the most important part in the relationship between men and women. In many societies, marriage means that a man marries a woman and has her live in his home since then. However, this is not the case when it comes to Chinese Mosuo people who practice “walking marriage” and Nigerian Igbo people who have “female husband”. Through comparing these two marriage systems, we have found that in both societies the marital relationship, under the influence of their respective traditional practices, is completely or partially reversed when compared with the common patriarchal marriage: men are only biological fathers while women assume the role of social father.
