Abstract:
In the history of Western ethics, there were four major changes in the field of ethics, which shouldhave opened up the major areas for ethical studies. However, they have not all been accepted as the subjectsworthy of study in the Western ethics. In the last century, the revitalization of virtue ethics greatly promotedthe reflection on and exploration of the disciplinary structure of ethics, making it desirable to unify the differentstrands of ethical studies. However, it is paradoxical that the Western ethics at the same time still confinedits focus to the problem of virtue, ignoring other issues and even dismissing them as unworthy topics. In thisarticle, we argue that ethics should include such major or basic areas as axiology, normativeness, virtue andlove, the objects of which are actually four basic spheres of the complex ethical phenomenon. It is true thatamong the four areas, the virtue theory occupies a very special position and the core position in a sense.
