Abstract:
Sense of gain is the public subjective feeling of sharing the material interests and enjoying basicrights in the process of comprehensively deepening reform. It is a concept with distinctive Chinese featureswhich derives from the modernization of state governance. The paradox of sense of gain refers to the socialpsychological state that though different social groups do have put into each other substantial subjectiveand objective resources in their social interactions, they do not admit that they have been treated fairly andadequately. A good case in point is the doctor-patient relationship, which has two major characteristics: oneis the co-existence of low satisfaction with the medical service process and the high trust of modern medicineand medical institutions; the other is the obvious inter-group competitive victimhood between patient anddoctor groups. The paradox of sense of gain in doctor-patient relationship is the manifestation of the reflexivityfeaturing in modernization. The remedy of this paradox lies in the overall planning from the standpoint ofsocial governance to foster collaborative forces of multi-governance. Social psychologists should focus on thecultivation of positive social mentality, put forward practical wisdom, and participate actively in the researchesand practices that may influence future public policies.
