Abstract:
The concept of educational equity has been gradually developing from“ equality of the startingpoint” to“ process equality” and then to“ outcome equality” . The current focus on education injustice hasshifted from the unequal opportunities of school attending to the inequality in educational process quality andoutcome. The primary reason for the result disparities in China’s education lies in the quality gap in basiceducation as well as the significant differences in the students’ family educational background, which may havegreater impact on their educational attainment. The focus of policy aiming at better educational equity shouldshift from equal enrollment rates to the quality of students’achievement. Towards more equal educationalresults, special attention and appropriate compensation should be given to the disadvantaged children.
