Abstract:
The interaction between a university and its graduates is significant to its future development. Researches have shown that the sense of belonging held by the graduates toward their alma mater is the key factor and the responsibility for education assumed by the university to its students is the fundamental factor to promote the interaction between graduates and their alma mater. With the university deepening its understanding of its graduates, four stages can be identified in the development of its relationship with the graduates:the university counts on its graduates to give it help and support; the university cares about the development of its graduates; the university solicits the feedback from its graduates from its development; and the university carries out research on the development of its students’ after-graduation development. However, there do exist some rare universities that do not actively cultivate any of the four types of relationship with their graduates. In this paper, we argue that the university should try its best to upgrade its relationship with the graduates to the fourth stage so that it can acquire sufficient knowledge of whether its graduates can meet the social needs and what roles they can play in the society. On this basis, the university can promote its education reform and interact more effectively with the society, thus better fulfilling its mission to produce graduates with good knowledge and skills as well as high morality.
