Abstract:
In his later years, Engels regarded the relationship between thinking and being as a basicphilosophical problem, and used it as the basis for dividing materialism from idealism and knowabilityfrom agnosticism. In the process of reviewing the traditional textbooks, the academics have reflected onthis understanding made by Engels and then questioned whether the relationship between thinking andbeing constitutes the basic problem of philosophy in general and of Marx’s philosophy in particular. In thispaper, we argue that the relationship between thinking and being is the basic problem of philosophy throughdifferentiating philosophy from concrete philosophical forms; and the“ basic problem” from the“ centralproblem”. By clarifying the internal relation between practice and thinking as well as being, we point outthat although its concrete manifestations are different, the relationship between thinking and being is still thebasic problem of Marx’s philosophy. It is of great theoretical and practical value to clarify the relationshipbetween thinking and being.
