Abstract:
Cultural symbols provide different ways of understanding space and time and a tool for formulatingquestions. New narrative strategies provided by social practice inject new impetus into the development ofcultural symbols. Cultural symbols and discourse system have their own logic of construction, the ideal stateof which is that one is isomorphic with the other in form, coherent in expression and consistent in meaning. Tobe specific, they are isomorphic with each other in such aspects as the relationship between the subject and theobject, inner values and the way of making signification. Their original meaning, referential meaning, symbolicmeaning and guiding function often vary with the context and environment. The construction of culturalsymbols and discourse system should be guided by advanced thoughts, conducted from a comprehensiveperspective, based on life practice, and realized by integration and innovation. The construction of culturalsymbols and discourse system in the Marxist context is based on the theory and practice of the socialism withChinese characteristics. That is to say, such notions as“ cultural soft power” ,“ cultural self-confidence” and“socialist cultural power” all have specific symbolic value and discursive denotation.
