- In the 16 —17th centuries，England was characterized by various social contradictions，religious cultures，and internal conflicts. Against such a background，the English religious policy followed adevelopment path from mild，to extreme，and back to mild. It seems that this circulation made no progress.But that was not true. If we take a closer look at this issue，we will reveal the truth hidden behind the oscillationbetween mild and extreme in the religious policy of England：it was mainly caused by the formation of nationstate，which was the theme of the early modern times.
