Abstract:
Many Chinese psychologists regard psychology as a discipline with cultural universality asevidenced by the fact that Chinese modern psychology was imported from the Western world. Currently, there’s no doubt that modern western psychology is in a dominant position while China’s mainland is short ofleading figures in cultural psychology. As a result,Chinese psychologists attach little importance to our nativeculture and indigenous psychological thoughts when constructing Chinese modern psychology. This makesit impossible for Chinese culture to supply foundations, source of ideas and inspiration to Chinese modernpsychology and moreover leads to the absence of cultural and ecological validity, spirit, macro perspective aswell as originality in some psychological studies. In order to solve these problems, researchers ought to keepChinese culture in mind by making some efforts in the following four aspects:(1) being equipped with a goodcommand of Chinese classical studies;(2) integrating Chinese culture into our theoretical frameworks, designsof experiments or questionnaires as well as analyses and discussions of research results;(3) constructingpsychological views and theories that conform to Chinese cultural tradition;(4) exploring research paradigms, techniques and methods of psychology that conform to Chinese cultural tradition.
