Abstract:
Facing the development of society and the continuous expansion of enrollment in colleges, thetraditional idea of moral education is unable to meet the new social needs and the changes in college students’social background and their physical and psychological characteristics. The following imbalances can beidentified in the current values education in colleges and universities:more attention is paid to the value ofknowledge than the value experience;more to the critique of values than their selection;more to the ought-tobeaspects of values than the conflicts in values;and more to the grandiose narration than daily performance. The reasons why deviations of this kind appear can be traced to the dogmatism in the concept, backwardnessin the content, and bureaucracy and formalism in the practice for moral education. On this basis, this paperputs forward that the education of values should be updated and improved from the perspective of open-moraleducation:we have to focus on the value evaluation of college students and overhaul the content and the formof values education according to the characteristics of the students;to help them clarify their misconceptions ofvalues;to enable them to make right choices in values;to provide them with enough space for value experience;and to help them internalize the correct values. Only by so doing can we find the road leading to a new type oftheory and practice of moral education which meets the needs imposed by a changing modern society.
