- Abstract:
- Using China’s outward foreign direct investment（ OFDI） panel data for 45 countries between2005 and 2011，the paper examines the different impacts of OFDI reverse technology spillover on China’stotal factor productivity（ TFP） produced respectively by its investments in developed countries，emergingmarket countries，resource-rich countries and developing countries from the perspective of different investmentmotivations. The empirical results show that，China’s OFDI to developed countries and resource-rich countrieswill significantly promote China’s technological progress，while that to emerging markets and developingcountries cannot promote China’s technological progress. Besides，OFDI to countries with a higher level ofeconomic development or R&D spending can significantly promote China’s technological progress，and theinvestment in capital-intensive countries can even promote China’s technological progress more significantly.
