Abstract:: The achievement of industrialization and modernization marks the historical progress of humancivilization. Although it is the common pursuit for countries in the world to fulfill the industrialization andmodernization，the approaches to this fulfillment vary from nation to nation. The industrialization andmodernization driven by capitalism have made a lot of accomplishments，but the unavoidable contradictionand shortcomings have appeared accordingly. It is indisputable that the western capitalist modernizationdevelopmental mode has lost its momentum. In light of this，China should critically and historically reviewthe western capitalist modernization mode in the process of its own modernization drive. In order to open upa brighter prospect for human society，China should also overtake the western mode and follow the path ofsocialism with Chinese characteristics consistently and unswervingly on the basis of a correct understanding ofworld affairs and its own condition and its autonomy in choosing its political system and road to development.
