Title:: Zhuangzi’s Sanyan Discourse Strategy and His Interpretation of Taoist Ideas of “Wu” and “Xuan”

Abstract:: Full of rich Taoist thoughts, Zhuangzi manifests its author’s unique elaboration of Taoism through his sanyan discourse strategy(literally three way of speaking). Through this strategy, Zhuangzi does not only give an insightful interpretation of Taoist ideas of “wu” and “xuan”(literally emptiness and mystery), but also facilitates readers’ understanding of key Taoist ideas from the perspective of receptive aesthetics, thus creating an interpretive system of Taoist ideas of wu and xuan in the complete process from the creation to the reception of the Taoist canon. The thoughts manifested by such a system enables Zhuangzi’s creation characterized by his sanyan discourse strategy to be rich in philosophical meditations, thus making Zhuangzi right in line with Laozi in terms of literary form as well discourse strategy.
