- Abstract:
- Francis Bacon pointed out the existence of four idols, namely:Idols of the Tribe,Idols of theCave,Idols of the Marketplace, and Idols of the Theater. They are the prejudices of the people who inclineto ignorance and error, and are the major obstacles to the truth. We find that these four idols still have someinfluence on the studies of modern psychology. Bacon is called the real originator of modern experimentalsciences as a whole. His theory of four idols still provides a useful analytical framework for the improvement ofpsychology which identifies itself as science.
