- Abstract:
- Facing serious ecological crises, organic Marxists like John B. Cobb,Jr. and Philip Claytonproposed the notion of“ China’s leadership” in building ecological civilization. According to them,Chinais the most likely nation to take the leading role and should shoulder the responsibility for saving humancivilization globally. However,China is still a developing country facing serious environmental problems anddaunting economic tasks,so the feasibility of their proposal is questioned by the international community.Despite its deficiencies, the thrust of their theory is essentially correct. Playing a leading role in buildingecological civilization is not only the responsibility for the international community China should take but alsoan unparalleled opportunity for China to rise up as a big nation. What we need to do is to fully understand thetheory of“ China’s leadership”,plug up its theoretical holes, improve its feasibility and explore appropriatestrategies for its implementation so as to help promote China’s global influence.
