Systemic cognitive-developmental therapy(SCDT)is a postmodern therapy that emphasizes the systemic and relational dimensions of illness narrative. The central thesis of SCDT is that all manifestations of psychological distress have a relational component and that only by understanding how the relational systems construct their interpretations and reactions to this distress can therapists select an appropriate treatment. Starting with the family unit and working internally with its members and externally with the wider social environment, SCDT creates alternative illness narratives and designs different measures to re-construct the relational balance so as to effectively treat psychological disorders.
