Abstract:
The inland migration caused by the Anti-Japanese War made the literary ecology of Kunming flourish rapidly. When cherishing their memories of Beijing, the writers would project their love for the former capital city onto Kunming on the one hand. On the other, the teachers and students of the United University not only constructed the modern literary field in Kunming, but also brought the academic criticism originated in Beijing back into glory again. In so doing, they successfully carried forward the intellectual genealogy formed in the New Cultural Movement through the dialogues between teachers and students, showing the successive evolution and accumulation of this intellectual tradition. The trend of literary modernism thus became a real significant phenomenon. In this sense, we can say that during the eight years in Kunming, the literary ecology underwent a slow change from remembering the old capital to thinking modernist literary thoughts.
