- In contemporary China, there is a certain degree of correspondence between the compilations ofpoetry anthologies and the different phases in the evolution of poetry. The literary popularization fervor in the1950s and the 1970s caused the selection of the poems for building an anthology to be dominated by thoseworks concerning workers, peasants and soldiers. Since the 1980s, with the restoration of the pursuit of theEnlightenment, the compilation of poetry anthology has begun to change to an elite taste. This shift of focushas brought about great changes in the function and the variety of poetry selection. The function of compiling apoetry anthology is to make a literary history by giving the poems selected the status as literary classics and toconstruct and record the real scene of literary creation.
