Abstract:
The globalized system assists America to acquire its hegemonic status that benefits the USAto export its hegemonic culture to the international community. While this milieu makes people raise theirawareness of the status of local cultures, it has stimulated two contradictory arguments. The perspective ofcultural localization highlights the linear relation among culture, national identity and state sovereignty. Incontrast, the notion of glocalization values the interaction between different cultures. With regard to this debate, those who favor cultural localization adopt the idea of resistance, but those who support glocalization prefer theconcept of fusion. Obviously, these two camps both ignore the interaction between agency and social structure. As culture capitalism meets the interest need of power elites who direct the operation of the state, culturalpreservation can become the priority on political agendas. This situation benefits local inhabitants to employtheir agency to elaborate local cultures.
