- The mass line is not only the fundamental work line of the Communist Party of China(CPC)but its leadership style and work style as well. In the formation of the mass line, the period when the CPC headquarters was located in Yan’an undoubtedly plays the most important part. At that time, the CPC achieved a new theoretical understanding of the mass line from the perspective of Marxist epistemology: for the first time it systematically elaborated its notion of the mass line and proposed “from the mass and into the mass” as its principal working method. In addition, the CPC redefined the relationships between the party and the mass and between the mass line and the theoretical line, upgrading the mass line to the fundamental line of the party and listing it among the three fine work styles in the party constitution. Therefore, we have to carefully investigate the CPC’s theoretical innovations in its mass line during the Yan’an period, which has a lot of practical implications for deepening the current mass line education.
