Abstract:
The spirit of modern enlightenment is the soul of modern Chinese intellectuals. The fifth generation of Chinese directors appeared on the historical stage in the 1980s. They once made use of specific images and shots to convey such spirit. However, they have lost their individuality, critical thinking and humanitarianism since we entered the new century. Having departed from the spirit of modern enlightenment, they make a one-sided pursuit of box office success, playfulness and entertainment. Under the guidance of the fifth generation of directors, Chinese films are gradually deviating from the right track of our history and social reality.
