Abstract:: Wu Jianren, a prolific giant in the field of novel in the late Qing dynasty, is famous for his achievements in novel writing, as well as the profound influences of his multidimensional construction of the theory of novel on the prosperous literature at that time. This paper analyzes the evolution of modern construction of Wu Jianren’s theory of novel to highlight the unique characteristics of its theoretical pattern and explore the relationship between subjective construction and social reality. On this basis, we can get a comprehensive grasp of the characteristics and rules of modern construction of the theory of novel in the late Qing dynasty.
