Abstract:: The peasants in local color fiction in new century fall into three categories: the migrant peasants; the peasants staying in the countryside; and the rural intellectuals. Because they live in different social spaces which are determined by their social activities in general and by their economic activities in particular, peasants of these different types undergo unprecedentedly different fate and experience in the transformation of rural China. In the process of acquiring modernity, the fission of the peasants cultural personality and spiritual structure is more intense and complex than ever. Their image characterized by a historical transition is the result of the transformation of Chinese society. It is also created and pictured by local writers in the new century in line with their own value orientation, moral choice and artistic insight, who try to seize the historical opportunity and analyze the fission of the peasants cultural personality.
