Abstract:
From 1917 to 1937, the universities in Beijing, where intellectuals were relatively concentrated, became one of the key venues for the dissemination and study of Marxism. The university publications in Beijing served as vital platforms and chroniclers of the dissemination of Marxism during this period. The main content of Marxism disseminated through these university publications included Marxist philosophy, Marxist political economy, and scientific socialism. However, Marxism was more often treated as a doctrine or a philosophical and economic theory for study and dissemination. The primary methods of dissemination included lectures, book introductions, and translated excerpts. The characteristics of this dissemination were predominantly indirect, with a focus on theoretical exploration and notable differences in interpretation. The academic research and dissemination of Marxism conducted by the university publications in Beijing and some intellectuals can be categorized as dissemination within the intermediate zone, which faced issues such as being scattered rather than systematic and partial rather than comprehensive.
