Abstract:: The relationship between the urban and rural cultures in contemporary China is the relationshipbetween two different forms of culture sharing equal rights to development rather than a relationship betweenthe advanced and the backward; between the substitution and what is substituted; or between the transformerand what is transformed. With different functions, the urban and rural cultures are complementary to each otherand enjoy a harmonious intergrowth. Cultural consciousness is the objective cognitive precondition for theharmonious intergrowth of the urban and rural cultures. Cultural confidence is the subjective identity foundationfor the harmonious intergrowth of the urban and rural cultures. Based on cultural consciousness and confidence,we have to follow the guidance of the advanced culture and promote the harmonious intergrowth of the urbanand rural cultures in line with the spirit of the times; stick to the standpoint of Chinese culture and enhance theharmonious intergrowth of the urban and rural cultures with Chinese style; cherish the characteristics of regionalcultures and promote the harmonious intergrowth of the urban and rural cultures with local features.
