- Abstract:
- Shiratori Kurakichi first redefined the story of Yao, Shun and Yu(legendary rulers of China in remote antiquity)as a legend instead of a historical fact. Jiegang Gu initially doubted the ancient history of China. When judging the value of the legend of Yao, Shun and Yu, they make a strict distinction between legends and historical facts, and highlight the historical and religious values of legends. Both of them regard legends as significant evidence for researching the history and religion of a nation. The longer the history is, the richer the legendary system is. However, they hold distinctively different views on the temporal and historical information conveyed by the legend of Yao, Shun and Yu, as well as its religious and political characteristics. Additionally, their views are entirely different regarding whether Yugong 禹贡(Tribute of Yu)has geological value.
