- Abstract:
- With the help of high-density event related potentials(ERPs), we investigated the neural mechanism of insight in the process of poetry appreciation based on the riddle-induction paradigm. Results show that 500~700ms after presenting eyes of poems, brain waves of poems that can induce insight have a more positive deviance compared with those of poems that cannot. The incubation period of the positive component lasted for 600ms and the peak of difference wave was located on Pz. The topographic map of difference wave shows that poems which can induce insight activated wider areas in parietal and occipital lobes compared with those that cannot. P600 may reflect the semantic integration induced by eyes of poems in the process of poetry appreciation and the subsequent renewal of semantic representation, indicating the specific processing mechanism of insight in this process. We hold that the occurrence of insight is a process of restructuring imagery; that is, restructuring a poem’s representation into a new one.
