- Abstract:
- In the socialist market economy, genre TV series(i.e. TV series with distinct genres like historical fiction, police and politics, and comedy)have developed into a major part of TV dramas. Their development has undergone a process from imitation to moderate innovation. Recently, the genre TV series represented by The Legend of Zhenhuan shows a strong tendency to blur the boundaries between different genres and has created a third type of innovation in comparison with the existing two types, i.e. “mixed type” and “subtype”, hence the name “blur boundary type”. The emergence of this atypical third type of genre TV series is the inevitable result of the development of the industrialization of contemporary Chinese drama as a popular cultural consumer product. The production of TV series like The Legend of Zhenhuan should be guided by the following three principles: to strike a balance between the narration of big events and that of daily trifles; between being faithful to the historical facts and using artistic imagination; and between the logic of narration and the logic of life.
